News and Information About Presbyterian Women and the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) t t t Presbyterian Mission Agency Interim Executive Director Begins Service The Presbyterian Mission Agency's interim executive director, Luis Antonio (Tony) De La Rosa began his role on December 2, 2016. One of his first actions was to preach and lead worship with Stated Clerk Gradye Parsons in the Presbyterian Center Chapel. In his sermon, Tony wove together humor, biblical insights and an awareness of the denomination's position in the world. Reflecting on God's enduring presence, Tony said, "Sometimes, the intercession of a gracious God means frustrating the best laid plans of humankind, an upsetting turn of events that just may lead to a more fortuitous result. The psalmist knows that God is ultimately wise and loving. Psalm 33 is not a cry of existential resignation. The psalm does not voice anger or regret; it is a hymn of deep, fundamental joy.H God is indeed in charge, and God is good." Tony's interim position will fill the gap left by the resigna- tion of Linda Valentine, the previous executive director, who left her position in July 2015. He may serve for up to three years, depending on when the PMA's search committee recom- mends the next candidate for election. Tony is a lifelong Presbyterian who most recently served Newport Presbyterian Church (Bellevue, Washington) as a commissioned ruling elder and interim lay pastor. m o s a i c The Continued Fight to End Human Trafficking On December 10, 2015, Hyatt Hotels Corporation announced it was signing on to ECPAT's Tourism Child-Protection Code of Conduct, often referred to simply as "The Code." The Code focuses on providing awareness, tools and support to the tourism industry to prevent the sexual exploitation of children. In 2013 and 2014, 54,000 Hyatt employees were required to take training to identify and respond to human trafficking. It is now an integral component of Hyatt's onboarding process and compliance training. Hyatt has also blocked onsite internet access to several websites commonly used for human trafficking across all U.S. hotels. Visit www.thecode.org for a list of signatories to The Code, which include hotels, travel agencies and other tourism industries.
